As someone who likes numbers, math and weird anomalies, baseball is the sport that resonates most with those interests.
But, even I think there may be just a tad too many numbers and the “game” can get lost in “spreadsheets” like the one below.
The goal here is not to memorize every number and what they represent, but to maybe find out something you weren’t aware of with a glance - Mauricio Dubon is a better fielder than I thought, Jose Siri was really good on the bases and Kyle Tucker swings at strikes, kind of thing.
I think we all knew those things to some degree, but this helps quantify them and confirm what we’ve seen with our eyes.
I probably have too many categories for your average reader on a phone, but this is a starting point, not the end. I’ll likely get rid of some as the season goes on to make it more readable.
Maybe I left one out. If so, let me know.
The other things that stand out are just how much of the offense Yordan is and how impressive David Hensley was, with the 34 plate appearance caveat.
