New Data Coming to Astros Projections
The only constant is change
As the Astros while away the spring looking for a left-handed hitting outfielder and perhaps a backup catcher (I think they need more than that), I’ve been trying to determine what 2026 will look like on the site.
I haven’t written much lately because, well, not much has been going on - the last transaction for the Astros happened on 2/15 when they signed Cavan Biggio to a minor league deal.
Since then - zip - and I’m not one to fill up your in-box for clicks.
New Information in Upcoming Projections
The 2026 projections are in the works behind the scenes, and while the information will be similar, the delivery will be different.
It turns out my diatribe about fWAR projections made me think about what I was including in the projections and reevaluate what data readers want included.
It was the most-read piece of the offseason.
The current plan is to provide charts and graphs that allow you to compare the 2026 projection with the actuals for 2025, 2024, and 2023.
I’ll also include just the numbers in chart form for those who prefer that view.
But the bigger news is that I plan to include projections for wRC+ (for batters) and fWAR as well.
I’ll send these out beginning next week and work our way through the team, two or three players per post, with the goal of hitting all 26 on the opening roster prior to opening day.
As always, thanks for reading and I’ll be back Monday with projections for Nick Allen and Jose Altuve.
